Print Methods & Compatible Materials

Pick a print method to see what it is and which materials it works best on. Availability varies by product, artwork, and finish.

What it is: Ink is pushed through a stencil (screen) onto the surface for bold, opaque color and great durability; ideal for solid fills and spot colors.

  • Apparel: Cotton, ringspun, triblend tees; fleece; hoodies.
  • Bags & Totes: Canvas, cotton, non-woven.
  • Hard Goods: Coated metals, select plastics (flat), wood.
  • Glass/Ceramic: With ceramic/glass inks; often kiln-cured.

Tip: Large solids pop on smooth substrates; heathers mute color ~5–15%.

What it is: Direct-to-object printing that jets UV-cured inks (including white) for full-color, short-run customization on compatible coatings.

  • Drinkware/Hard Goods: Coated stainless, powder coat tumblers, compatible glass.
  • Plastics: Flat panels, cases, signs (material dependent).
  • Wood & Composites: Plaques, awards, decor.
  • Short-Run Cartons/Labels: Prototypes, variable data.

Note: Adhesion varies by coating; test for abrasion/condensation where relevant.

What it is: A soft silicone pad transfers ink from an etched plate to irregular or tiny surfaces—great for fine detail on small curved items.

  • Curved/Small Items: Pens, keychains, gadgets.
  • Promo Plastics: Clips, tools, small cases.
  • Metal Parts: Small badges, clips, bottle openers.

Tip: Excellent for tiny details on irregular shapes where screen print can’t reach.

What it is: A laser removes coating or etches the surface for a permanent, precise mark—no inks; contrast depends on substrate.

  • Metals: Stainless, anodized aluminum, coated steels.
  • Drinkware: Powder-coated tumblers, bottles.
  • Organic: Wood, leather patches, cork.
  • Glass: Frosted-style marks (art/shape dependent).

Note: Contrast depends on coating/anodize; color-fill optional on some metals.

What it is: Your artwork is converted to stitches and sewn directly into the fabric for a premium, textured result (flat or 3D puff).

  • Headwear: Caps (structured/unstructured), beanies (incl. 3D puff).
  • Apparel: Polos, jackets, fleece, workwear.
  • Bags: Duffels, backpacks, heavy totes.

Tip: Small text needs higher stitch density and stable fabric.

What it is: Graphics are printed or cut, then heat-pressed onto the item—ideal for full color, small runs, names/numbers, and tricky placements.

  • Apparel: Cotton, cotton/poly, performance poly.
  • Headwear/Panels: Compatible cap panels and patches.
  • Personalization: Names, numbers, small runs.

Note: Use low-temp films for poly to limit dye migration.

What it is: Heat turns dye into gas that bonds with polymer coatings/fibers—ultra-durable, full-color results that feel like part of the item.

  • Apparel: Light 100% polyester/performance fabric.
  • Drinkware: Poly-coated mugs, bottles (compatible SKUs).
  • Panels & Soft Goods: Aluminum photo panels, mousepads.

Tip: Works best on white/light substrates; dyes are translucent.

What it is: Abrasive blasting or chemical etching removes surface material for a frosted, permanent mark with a premium look.

  • Glassware: Pints, stemware, mugs, growlers.
  • Ceramics: Steins, mugs (select finishes).

Note: Permanent, dishwasher-durable marks; opaque inks not applicable.

What it is: Heat and pressure apply metallic or pigment foil via a custom die for reflective, high-end accents.

  • Paperboard: Cartons, sleeves, neckers, carriers.
  • Pulpboard: Coasters, inserts.
  • Labels: Cold-foil and hot-foil effects.

Tip: Pair with emboss for dramatic premium cues.

What it is: A metal die raises (emboss) or presses in (deboss) the surface—adds tactile depth and perceived value.

  • Paperboard: Cartons, sleeves, premium carriers.
  • Leather/Patches: Debossed logos and patterns.

Note: Requires die tooling; best on thicker stocks and leathers.
